Hazard assessment of sustainable Low-Carbon fuel aerosols using lung cell models
Emissions from low-carbon fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia are assessed for their potential effects using advanced in vitro lung models.
Heavy-duty vehicles, machinery, aircraft, and ships contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants. As part of the EU-funded LowC project, we investigate the potential health effects of exhaust emissions from heavy-duty engines powered by climate-neutral fuels. Using human-relevant lung cell models, we can evaluate relevant endpoints and compare the outcome to reference fuel effects. This work aims to evaluate the safety of emerging fuel technologies from a hazard perspective and support environmental and health policies.
