Ion-selective membranes for power conversion from salinity gradients with unprecedented efficiency
Electric eel-inspired materials to storage and deliver electrical power
Inspired by the ion-selective membranes in the electric organ of electric eels, this NCCR Collaborative Project aims to develop novel synthetic ion-selective membranes for storing energy and delivering electrical power under load. The project unites four NCCR groups with very diverse expertise from biophysics and bioinspired electricity (Prof. Michael Mayer), to polymer self-assembly and energy storage (Prof. Ullrich Steiner), to polymer chemistry (Profs. Nico Bruns and Christoph Weder).
